Worst 5 States to Live in

The north is on my shitlist.

5. Maine
Luckily for Maine, people love lobster. Otherwise, when is the last time you’ve heard it’s name mentioned? It’s a nobody state, much like North Dakota or Texas.

4. New York
Rude assholes. Every last one of you.

3. New Jersey
No originality for this one, they’re rude assholes too. Every last one of you.

2. New Hampshire
What does this state do?

1. California
What a cess pool. You can make $60,000 a year here and be on welfare. High taxes, high cost of living, too crowded, too diverse for my tastes.

  1. What does NH do?

It’s the “Live Free or Die” state.

It does whatever the fuck it wants to do!

  2. I lived in metro Atlanta from 1968 - 2000. It outgrew me and is today a cesspool not even worthy of a visit.

Maine has far fewer people, far more natural splendor, and much more beautiful seasons than any other state on the east coast.

This is YOUR list of the five worst states to live in. Here’s mine…

    5. Florida
Even though the fishing is great year-round, it is Florida. That’s enough of a turn-off for anybody. Oh, and every Floridian is either ancient or insane. Or both.

    4. New Jersey
Can’t argue with that one… NJ sux.

    3. North Carolina
Blue laws and far more religion than anyone should be allowed (also too many people).

    2. Georgia
Hot, humid, too many people, too much crime, too little water, too many people who can’t speak my language. Not to mention corrupt politicians, rednecks, and way WAY too many cops. Food, however, is fantastic.

    1. Ohio
It’s become a police state. The state is more invasive than the Federal Gov’t, there is no privacy and you can be locked up for failing to provide your ID when questioned by a cop. They’ve become what we all fear America is becoming and someone needs to stop them.

  3. Those states send welfare money to most Southern and Western states. Without their generosity…well, without the Federal Government redistributing their wealth, New Mexico and Arizona would be unlivable, and MI, MS, LA and AL would have to severely cut back their budgets.

You might want to take a look at this map showing the deadbeats and the generous providers:

  4. New Hampshire is excellent!: No taxes, no building codes (way up north where I’m at, anyways), no zoning, no gun control, no welfare, first in the Union to allow the modern lottery, first in the nation in presidential elections, the largest representative body (at NO pay!) outside of the U.S. congress, bi-annual legislative sessions, an excellent naval shipyard (NH has the smallest coastline in the US), covered bridges, crystal clear water, home of Daniel Webster, home of Mary Baker Eddy, site of international World Confrences (at the famous Mount Washington Hotel) and the designee of ‘Worst weather on earth’ (at the summit of Mt. Washington).
Our state motto: Live Free or Die!

  5. And i wonder what city the writer of those opinions is in?

  6. I’m in South Carolina. Go ahead, bring it.

  7. Can ya’ add Virginia to that list? They should be called the “Communistwealth” not “Commonwealth.” The residents are WAAAAY over taxed beyond a normal citizen’s burden, yet they give away more money per person to welfare lazy-arses than I make in a year at a full time job. The only difference is I have no kids and the welfare mum has 10, by 10 different men. WAAAAAAY too many cops and WAAAAAAAY too expensive fines. Now, with the new law, not only do you pay for a speeding ticket and court costs, you pay a fee of 750.00 per year for 3 years after that. EVIL, EVIL state.
I agree with Tedlick, though. NORTH CAROLINA has waaaaaaay too many blue laws and they need to get their heads out of their bible-thumping arses. We went to a concert in Asheville, NC last friday night and found out that if you don’t have a driver’s license, but you DO have a state issued PHOTO ID, you CANNOT drink at a bar in NC. So you must be able to drive to drink, but you can’t drink & drive???

  8. Obviously you’ve never been to Maine, please don’t bother, we wouldn’t want your little head to explode when you realized what a jerk you are.

  9. California does suck, but I say you get what you pay for… I’ve been all over, there are nice places, but san diego has the perfect mix of weather, people and places that no other place can rival. It costs a lot to live here but I would rather live in poverty here than be wealthy anywhere else.

    Lots of girls here…

  10. NewHampshire is a really cool state - property taxes and housing prices as you get further south are a little crazy though. Great place to rent if you can find a good job though! (no state income or sales tax!!)

NewYork is alright too - we pride ourselves on our rudeness. At least someone in NY will give it to you straight, not gloss over the assholishness of humanity with faux niceties and pretend hospitality. Property taxes are too high, so is sales tax.

I got robbed in NorthCarolina and its too damn hot down there. Compounded with the religious crazies and its not some place Id like to call home.

No matter where you are, the pros and cons are going to balance out. It’s all about attitude really…

  11. Population of Maine, 2006: 1,321,574
    Population of SC, 2006: 4,321,249

Maine Median household income, 2004 $41,287
SC Median household income, 2004 $39,454

    Maine Federal spending, 2004 ($1000) 10,864,551
    SC Federal spending, 2004 ($1000) 30,051,171

And finally, only because you said of Kalifornia “too diverse for my tastes”

Maine White persons, percent, 2005 96.9%
SC White persons, percent, 2005 68.4%

Though Charleston can be a damned fine place to raise hell, you can keep South Carolina.

    And North Carolina.
    And Georgia.
    And Tennessee
And all the other bible thumping holier-than-though shit I fled from when I moved north.

  12. South Carolina, eh? You’ve got some lovely nerve trying to take on the North when your lovely “confederate” state leeches off our generosity more than you’ll most likely ever know. Do yourself a favor and go take a look at…

    http://fuckthesouth.com/

… yes, the name is a poor choice but they bring up some great facts about why you should be kissing our feet instead of trying to step on them.

By the way, go ahead and try to take on New Jersey, you toothless wonder — we whooped you all in the civil war, get over it.

  13. Does South Carolina have anything to offer besides a big rest stop that sells fireworks and porn to dirty old men?

  14. NH is great. There should be more states like it.

  15. why do southern men sound like retards when they speak?

hint, it’s not the horrible accent.

  16. […] have personally lived in three of the Top Five Worst States. Hint: they all start with […]

  17. As for NY: dont get these two confused:

“new yorkers” - people who live in NYC, who ARE rude assholes

“new yorkers” - people who live everywhere else. I live in Buffalo, and I cant even tell you how many out-of-towners tell me how nice the people are here. We dont have the nickname “the city of good neighbors” for nothing”.

I think if it were up to most people living in New York state, NYC would be ceded and condemned. Most of the state’s pop. pays their debts anyway.

  18. the two are exactly the same words, but carry different meanings (shouldve included that in the first post)- its tricky.

  19. people in new york aren’t rude, they’re just hostile from all the fucking obese toursits waddling at .0001 miles an hour and taking up the entire goddamn sidewalk.

  20. When I first heard that poors were getting internet access I thought, “no good can come of this.” Stop slacking and get back to washing my car, biatch.

    Median household income (2006 dollars)

    1. New Jersey 66,752
    2. Maryland 63,082
    3. Hawaii 61,005
    4. Connecticut 60,551
    5. New Hampshire 60,411

  21. As a New Yorker, we don’t like you either. And we’re not afraid to tell it like it is.

  22. All you Southerners go on about is how bad the North sucks. Well I’ve lived all over and I must say the best places to live in the U.S. are Northern NY and VT. I currently live in Indiana, which isn’t one of the worst places I’ve lived, at least the evangelicals here are open to the concept of true Christian living, as opposed to the FOX news/Jesus Camp/White jihad I get exposed too every time I venture into the land of the 30 year old grandma.

I’ve spent way too much time in the south, getting lectured to by “Christians” who probably have never actually opened a Bible in their lives. They use their twisted interpretations of Christianity as a battleaxe. Would Jesus really want to nuke Iran? No, but I bet you do.

Here’s the difference between the North and South. In the North they may not believe the Bible, but they pay attention to their fellow man, and live lives as true Christians. We’ll give you the shirts off our backs and return postage money. In the South you’ll be condemned as a godless heathen for saying something bad about Dubya or whatever pastor of the week got arrested for buggering a kid. You’re overrun by sodomizing egomaniacs running million dollar churches who fail do actually do anything about the poverty and illiterate degenerates who surround your ivory towers. You rely on our generosity to fund your inept/corrupt governments and wonder why we laugh openly to your faces every time you crow git-r-dun for Jesus.

If Southerners were literate and schooled in something resembling critical thought, they would realize that the biblical phrases they so often misquote pretty much have nothing to do with whatever they’re blathering on about. Try living as Jesus did, not as a TV preacher does. There’s a difference, and you will feel truly better for it.

New Yorkers aren’t rude, we just speak plainly when we meet simpletons. We understand Southern speak is full of thinly veiled insults, and frankly, we don’t think its worth our time. If you’re going to be an insufferable git, then we’ll get straight to the point. There’s no use sugarcoating a turd.

Personally I wish Lincoln had let the southern states leave. We’re sick of subsidizing a bunch of illiterate inbred racist mouth breathers. All you do is whine and complain, bitch and moan. Grow up already. You’re supposed to be the states rights anti federal government flunkies, so stop asking for f-ing handouts every time you get a rainstorm.

  23. @Chris

having lived in New York state, you are correct. and Buffalo is a great city, I travel there at least once a year from Maine to see the Patriots play, and stay for almost a week.

  24. I agree with BADKEY.
However Ohio isnt becoming a police state it is a police state. Oppressively high taxes, criminal representation, over populated. Lousy roads. Idiots in Columbus (the capitol), a virtual Marxist governor( strickland). Cincinnati is overrun with criminals despite the huge amount of money being spent to make the city livable it is in fact an unsafe open sewer. Ohio needs a “do-over” it is as corrupt as they come. Depite the shots taken I came here from NC and can’t wait to get back to the south. I plan on retiring in SC primarily to live in as rural an area as I can find. : “Dum Spiro Spero”

  25. New Jersey is the best state to live in and thats all there is to it and whoever wrote this has no organality and is rude!

  26. I mean from our point of view from the north, Buffalo, NY to be exact, you come up here calling us rude assholes- and its no wonder we act rude because of your unnecessary preconceptions of New Yorkers (the good kind, not the NYC kind). Granted there are plenty of rude assholes up here, but generalizing an entire state is a bit over the top. I bet you havent even been to Buffalo.

  27. nj sucks big time,AZ,rules

  28. all of you are emo … (those who keep complaining).

these are just opinions not facts, this blog sucks so stop complaining about life. go find out what states actually have laws that are good and not just ur own dumbfounded feelings emos!

  29. @stop it you all!!!!

wow. emo? really? quite possibly the most retarded comment on this entire blog. Congrats for being a jackass.

  30. Ummm.HELLO?

Most of the states are in the toilet right now.

And,New York is wayy too exp.

  31. I agree with New Jersey. I lived in NJ all my life, i hate it with a passion. I hate all the mid-atlantic(NJ, NY, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland) states. I hate the south as well. Yeah, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida are indeed awful states. The south is garbage.

I’m heading to New England or eastern Canada(Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Quebec)

  32. Forgot Ontario

  33. and Prince Edward Island

  34. OKAY..

    1. NEW YORK
    2.Alabama
    3. Oregon..no one knows about this state!
    4. Georgia
    5. Nevada

    best state ever?? TEXAS BABY!!

  35. Mississippi and Louisiana are by far our worst states.

  36. Maine is terrible! We get our asses taxed so hard. To register acar $500. my house taxes $2000! the tax us to hell and nobody in this state makes enough to afford it! with the gas prices on the rise this is killing mainers! we can’t afford it with the taxes there charging us!

  37. I would think it would be California I am so glad I don’t live in that nanny state and all those liberals must be terrible.

  38. my pick for the 5 worst states:

5:north dakota - there is *nothing* there >.< its flat and boring!

4:florida - the whole state sells itself out to developers and tourists…

3:west virginia - one of the poorest, most rural, decrepit states around. theres a ton of racism there also, its really strange in some parts O_o

2:mississippi - poor, obese, falling apart, near the bottom in everything, pretty much owned by the church as far as social life goes.

1:utah - for one thing, it’s desert everywhere. for another thing the people are the meanest, rudest, most narrow minded ive ever met. they make the people from NYC look like midwesterners O_o

p.s. ive been to all of those places many times, and ive lived in utah north dakota and west virginia.

  39. Pennsylvania…. I have lived here for my whole life, 18 years, and I know that it’s boring. EVERYTHING here is plain and repetitive.I visited some of the south and upwards too. My favorite state was New York in West Point. Fantastic area, with free living. :)…. we got Amish… which is the best thing in PA. I love Amish people lol. It’s EVERYONE else who makes this state crappy

  40. MISSISSIPPI is the worst state! NO JOBS, HIGH CRIME, LOTS OF COLORED PEOPLE.

  41. Ok, so here are my top 5.

    5. Louisiana- Who wants to live in a state that gets destroyed by hurricanes? Living in fear that a hurricane will be the next Katrina.

    4. California- High prices, earthquakes anorexic stars. They even screwed up Disney!

    3. Montana- Why? I have no clue, but I have always wondered how such a big state can have such little activity

    2. New Jersey- Just make it part of New York and get over it.

    1. Alabama- Incest.

  42. 5.nebraska
    4 iowa
    3mississippi
    2kentucky
    1west virginia
I have been to all 50 states except (alaska hawaii and maine) I have lived in 8 states and this is my personal list. i lived in wv for 11 years, ky 2 and ms 3. West virginia has no oportunity no growth and that is what most west virginians want. people wonder why they are always at the bottom of everything ]and they are so far behind its unreal. if you like to be out doors or you want to be a game warden then west virginia is your place. in huntington and charleston the crime is pretty bad and drugs are bad as well there are no jobs anywhere and over half of the state is on assistance. west virginia is hands down the worst state ever

  43. The south is the best (georgia). the north sucks !

    GET-R-DUN !!!!!

  44. VIRGINIA. Definetely.
Except for Northern VA, near the DC area. That place is on point.
(and this is coming from the girl who has lived in Southern VA all her life, but visits up there all the time)
If you aren’t a conservative christain who is for the war in iraq, owns a confederate flag, or have an amazing income you inherited instead of dragging your ass out to work like the COMMON man, you aren’t gonna be taken seriously.
We don’t tip cows or marry our cousins like people keep saying (um, wrong state), but we still suck with our taxes on every thing and our pay rates staying down so that we”re always broke.
Oh, and racism? Still alive. people just try to hide it (and fail)
And the hampton roads area? You know, VA Beach/Hampton/Newport News/Norfolk? The only actual civilization that isn’t the north.
VA Beach resort area, however, is a joke. (why do people love to visit it so much?!?!!?)
sorry for all the complaining, but all ina ll it sucks. im moving out as soon as possible.

  45. Fuck the United States. I’m moving to Canada.

  46. KO, you sound like a messed-up sort of individual who will never be happy anywhere. I don’t see you improving any place you go, either.

  47. Leave LA,MS and TX off your list because if not for these states your ass would be walking or riding your bikes to work
